For Kelly Wilcox and her partner, nature was calling. They’d been living in Calgary for close to 20 years, the last 10 in a single-family 2,500-square-foot home in the northwest community of Evanston, but Wilcox was tired of the hustle and bustle.
“Evanston had just become so busy, and I was really missing having mountain views,” says Wilcox. The couple, who are avid fly fishers and spend plenty of time on the river trails walking their Labradoodle Artoo, wanted a home that was low-maintenance, quieter and that offered them direct access to the river and to nature.
They found everything that they were looking for at River Pointe Towns in Cochrane, a limited release of 14 townhomes arranged in four small blocks and part of Renova’s award-winning River Pointe Villa project, a collection of 33 boutique homes located riverside on the Bow River in the established community of Riversong on Cochrane’s south side.
The collection’s unique urban architectural style features sweeping angled rooflines and dark earth toned colours that blend with the natural environment.
“It’s timeless and quietly upscale — clean lines, warm materials and large windows to capture light and views. The towns were intentionally designed as companions to our villas, so the streetscape feels cohesive and elevated,” says Melanie Law, area sales manager for Renova Homes.
But Cochrane wasn’t the first place on the couple’s radar; they began their home search in Calgary’s southwest. “And then we happened to be poking around on Instagram and an ad came up for the River Pointe project, so we looked into it and went to an open house. We fell in love with the location, the view and the layout.”
What really intrigued Wilcox about the design was the generous storage and the clever use of space.
“The floor plan is very thoughtful and we actually have views of the river from all three floors. For this price point, we couldn’t get anything like this in Calgary.”
Once the couple began exploring the Town of Cochrane and all that it had to offer, the deal was cinched. Located just 20 minutes from Calgary and nestled into the foothills, Cochrane’s lifestyle is unparalleled.
“Cochrane was really calling to us. It has such a small-town feel. Everything that we need is here, all of the shopping. I can’t imagine we will have to go into Calgary for much. Plus, there is so much nature and our new home is so close to the river. It’s literally right at our doorstep,” says Wilcox.
Law would agree.
“The location is definitely unbeatable — steps to the Bow River pathways, minutes to Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre and downtown Cochrane and an easy hop to Calgary or Canmore. It’s tucked away, yet central,” she says.
The couple purchased an end-unit Hillcrest model (all of the 14 townhomes are versions of this model), a two-storey, three-bedroom design that offers plenty of light, a huge deck that overlooks the river valley and Cochrane Hill and an underdrive double-car garage. With more than 1,900 sq. ft. of living space, the home provides all of the bells and whistles including an optional fourth bedroom and ensuite that can be worked into the lower-level floor plan and a luxury finishing package, the same package offered in the award-winning River Pointe Villas. Built-in appliances, high-end cabinetry, quartz countertops throughout, built-in wood closet shelving, 10 ft. ceilings and gas fireplaces are all standard.
The couple likes to cook and hopes to do some entertaining, and Wilcox says that the home is well-suited to that. “The main floor space is nice and open and the patios in the front and the back are a huge bonus.”
In addition to two patios, each townhome has a private fenced and gated backyard.
“These homes back onto an environmental reserve that won’t be developed and gives views from the back of trees and greenspace. It’s a very private feel,” says Renova’s Law.
Although the couple will have to commute into Calgary for work, Wilcox says it won’t be onerous. “I work from home four days a week and my partner works early mornings so there shouldn’t be too much traffic.”
The couple recently chose all of their finishes — they picked a soft-grey colour scheme — and with a move-in date slated for June 2026, they can’t wait. They’ve already scouted out the best places to fly-fish and are looking forward to a low maintenance, lock-and-leave lifestyle.
“We are so excited,” says Wilcox.
